SASSA has measures in place to assist those affected by the floods in KZN and other affected provinces.

Who can apply for SOCIAL RELIEF OF DISTRESS (THIS IS NOT THE SRD 350 PLEASE DO NOT CONFUSE THE TWO)

This temporary provision of assistance is provided to people affected by a crisis or a disaster and is mainly for people who are unable to meet their families most basic needs.

WHICH SRD IS PROVIDED BY SASSA during a crisis/disaster

 SASSA provides food vouchers to the value of R1200 per family.

 R1980 x2 (total amount paid per family R3960) as food vouchers or cash to a family with deceased family members due to a disaster.

School uniform is provided to learners who lost uniform due to a disaster .

Who Can Apply For SRD?

The temporary provision of assistance is meant for families who are unable to meet the most basic needs of families who are affected by a crisis or disaster.

Which SRD Is Provided By Sassa During A Crisis Or Disaster?

• Food vouchers to the value of R1 200 per family
• R1 960 x2 (3 920 per family) as food vouchers or cash to a family member who died due to the disaster/crisis.
• School uniform is provided to learners for lost uniform during the due to the disaster

– Girls R2 700 and R2 500 for boys

How To Apply To Apply For The Food Voucher

Submit your contact details to a ward councillor at your nearest municipality or to a social worker. Your application for the food voucher is processed immediately after the assessment. Once your application is approved, the voucher will be issued.

You will only receive the voucher for one month.

SASSA explained, it[s] expected that the people’s lives will normalise and the other forms of SRD including the R350 [grant] will still be available for people who are experiencing hardship”.
