R350 Grant Extended To 2023
R350 Grant Extended To 2023 AS PROMISED WE SAID WE WOULD SUMMARISE WHAT AFFECTS SASSA MEMBERS.
All that was said in the SONA ADDRESS is that the SRD/350 will be extended until March 2023.
See paragraph below.
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced that the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) will be extended for 12 months.
Ramaphosa said, “mindful of the proven benefits of the grant, we will extend the R350 SRD grant for one further year to the end of March 2023”.
The grant was scheduled to come to an end in March 2022. This would have left more than 10 million people without crucial relief.
Social support grants are a crucial tool to assist the most vulnerable members of our society. Around 46% of South Africa’s population currently benefits from grants distibuted by the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa).
“Over the last few months, we have had ongoing discussions with our social partners in business, labour and community-based organisations, who proposed an extension of some of the social and economic support.
We have, therefore, decided to extend the period for the Special COVID-19 Grant of R350 by a further three months.
This has proven to be an effective and efficient short-term measure to reduce the immediate impact on the livelihoods of poor South Africans.
We have also decided to extend the COVID-19 TERS benefit until 15 March 2021, only for those sectors that have not been able to open and operate.
The conditions of this extension and the sectors to be included will be announced after consultations with social partners at the National Economic Development and Labour Council”
We did not expect anymore to be said in SONA ON THIS AS THE DETAILS ON THE HOW/WHAT AND WHERE AS WELL AS THE INCREASES AND CHANGES OF STANDARD GRANTS ETC COME AFTER SONA IN THE BUDGET SPEECH AND THE DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL DEVELOPMENTS SPEECH WHICH HAPPEN SOON.
We will as always keep you updated on developments as they happen.
