Job Summary:
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking dynamic individuals for the role of Dispensary Support. The position aims to engage learners capable of successfully completing the learner basic pharmacist assistant course. Candidates will acquire comprehensive knowledge of pharmaceutical principles and dispensing practices, ensuring quality on-the-job learning. Dispensary Support staff will be on a Fixed Term basis until registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as learner basic assistants, with the potential for permanent employment upon qualification.
Minimum Requirements:
- Matric or Senior Certificate with Pure Mathematics (50%), Life Science and/or Physical Science (50% average).
Responsibilities:
- – Dispensary Support staff must have completed a proficiency test enabling them to seek registration with the Pharmacy Council (SAPC). Responsibilities include:
- – Conducting the sale of Schedule 1 medicines or scheduled substances.
- – Assisting with compounding, manipulation, or preparation of non-sterile medicines following approved procedures.
- – Unpacking and merchandising stock, maintaining dispensary and OTC shelf cleanliness.
- – Accurate interpretation of scripts, ensuring compliance with legal requirements.
- – Managing the picking, packing, labeling, and checking of medications for accuracy.
- – Monitoring stock levels, cleanliness, and organization of shelves, including expiry date tracking.
- – Following up with patients on script tracking and appointments.
- – Managing call center scripts and patient service telephone calls.
- – Providing health-related information to individuals.
- – Assisting with the authorization of chronic, HIV and AIDS, and oncology medications.
- – Reporting on low/out-of-stock levels and stock errors.
- – Receiving dispensary stock as per company SOP.
Competencies Essential:
- Proficiency in English and a 2nd language (reading, writing, and speaking).
- Strong time management, deadline-driven, ability to work under pressure, attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, active listening, customer service orientation, and problem-solving ability.
- Team player with conflict management skills, able to lead by example, demonstrate accountability, and maintain professional conduct.
- Trustworthy and honest.
- Proficient in computer and numerical skills.
Advantageous:
- Experience in retail FMCG, Dis-Chem front shop, with a commendable performance record.
- Knowledge of drug and family planning, complementary medicine.
- Familiarity with Unisolv, SAP, and E-Scripting.
Special Conditions of Employment:
- Successful completion of the proficiency test for Pharmacy Council registration.
- South African citizenship.
- Clear MIE, criminal, and credit records.
